Punjab Police Crack Petrol Bomb Attacks on Shiv Sena Leaders, Four Arrested
In a significant achievement in the ongoing efforts to enhance safety in Punjab, the Punjab Counter Intelligence and the Ludhiana Commissionerate Police have successfully solved the petrol bomb attacks targeting Shiv Sena leaders, resulting in the arrest of four members of the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) module linked to foreign operatives. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced this breakthrough, highlighting the arrests of Jaswinder Singh alias Binder from Boothgarh in Ludhiana, and three others—Ravinder Pal Singh alias Ravi (38), Manish Sahid alias Sanju (30), and Anil Kumar alias Honey (27)—all residents of Rahon in Nawanshahr. The police have also seized two mobile phones and impounded a red TVS Raider motorcycle, which was reportedly used in the commission of these crimes.
DGP Yadav detailed that this operation effectively resolved the petrol bomb incidents, including the attack on Shiv Sena leader Yogesh Bakshi’s residence on October 16, 2024, and the subsequent incident at Harkirat Singh Khurana’s home in Model Town Extension, Ludhiana, on November 2, 2024. The first incident involved three unidentified individuals throwing a petrol bomb at Bakshi’s home around 9:40 PM, while the second attack occurred just days later at the residence of Harkirat Singh.
Furthermore, the DGP revealed that Harjit Singh alias Laddi, a foreign-based handler involved in these activities, is also wanted for the murder of Vikas Prabhakar in Nangal, Punjab, with a reward of Rs 10 lakhs offered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for his capture. Investigations are still underway to trace the connections and possibly make additional arrests in the future.
During a press interaction, Commissioner of Police (CP) Ludhiana Kuldeep Singh Chahal explained that the police swiftly mobilized various teams from the Ludhiana Commissionerate and Counter Intelligence, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Investigation Shubham Aggarwal. The Counter Intelligence team was headed by Additional Inspector General (AIG) Simratpal Singh Dhindsa, with support from other senior officials overseeing different teams.
Chahal emphasized that thorough investigations, including analyzing CCTV footage and gathering technical evidence, played a crucial role in apprehending the four suspects involved in these petrol bomb attacks. He noted that both Anil alias Honey and Ravinder alias Ravi were present at both incidents, while Jaswinder alias Binder was identified as being with them in the Haibowal area during one of the attacks. The police are also on the hunt for a third individual linked to the petrol bomb incident in Model Town Extension.
As part of this investigation, two separate FIRs have already been filed: FIR no 147 on October 21, 2024, at Haibowal Police Station, and FIR No 14 on November 2, 2024, at Model Town Police Station, under various relevant sections of the law.
