Punjab Police Intensifies Crackdown on Day 3: Over 12,000 Vehicles Checked to Curb Drug Smuggling and Anti-Social Activities

CHANDIGARH, June 18: Continuing its vigorous operation against drug smugglers and anti-social elements for the third consecutive day, Punjab Police, under the directive of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, conducted extensive vehicle checks across the state. The operation, supervised by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav, took place from 11 am to 3 pm, encompassing all 28 police districts.

Special DGP Law and Order, Arpit Shukla, who closely monitored the state-level initiative, directed all CPs/SSPs to set up robust checkpoints supervised by inspectors within each police station’s jurisdiction. These checkpoints facilitated thorough inspections of motorcycles and other vehicles, focusing on identifying and verifying suspicious individuals while minimizing public inconvenience.

During this coordinated effort, 372 strong nakas were established, involving over 2,684 police personnel. The teams checked 12,040 vehicles, issued 603 challans, and impounded 35 vehicles. Additionally, 4,236 suspicious individuals were scrutinized. Utilizing the VAHAN mobile app, police verified vehicle registration numbers to ensure compliance.

Special DGP Shukla emphasized the importance of friendly and polite interactions between police personnel and commuters during the operation. He highlighted that such measures not only enhance police visibility but also create a deterrent effect on anti-social elements and reinforce public safety.

This intensive operation underscores Punjab Police’s commitment to maintaining law and order and aligns with CM Bhagwant Singh Mann’s vision of a secure and drug-free Punjab.
