In a decisive move to strengthen the ongoing anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, the Punjab Police, under the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, took significant action against the drug mafia by demolishing illegally constructed properties of drug traffickers in Fazilka and SAS Nagar districts. The campaign aims to eradicate the drug menace from the state and reflects the government’s commitment to making Punjab a drug-free state. The demolition drive was conducted with the active support of the local administration, showcasing a coordinated effort to tackle the drug problem at its roots.
In Fazilka district, the Punjab Police used a bulldozer to raze the house of a notorious drug smuggler identified as Bohar Singh in Seed Farm village. The action was led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Varinder Singh Brar, who was present at the site during the operation. According to official records, Bohar Singh has been involved in multiple criminal activities and is facing a total of 21 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The demolition of his illegally constructed house serves as a stern warning to those involved in the drug trade, emphasizing that wealth amassed through illegal activities will not be tolerated. SSP Brar, addressing the media, stated that properties of those engaged in drug trafficking would either be seized or demolished, reinforcing the administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards the drug mafia.
Similarly, in SAS Nagar, a significant demolition drive was carried out by the District Police in collaboration with the Municipal Council (MC) of Kharar. The operation targeted unauthorized structures built on encroached Panchayat land in Jandpur village, which has now become part of the Kharar Municipal Council. These structures were illegally occupied by a family involved in drug trafficking, with multiple FIRs registered against them. As per the records, the accused and his family members have been charged in seven FIRs, including three under the NDPS Act and one under the Excise Act, covering offenses committed between 1999 and 2014.
SSP SAS Nagar, Deepak Pareek, highlighted that the demolition was conducted following a formal request by the Municipal Council of Kharar, which sought police assistance to clear the illegal encroachments. The drive was executed meticulously to ensure that the operation proceeded without any disruptions. Sufficient security personnel were deployed at the site to prevent any law and order issues during the demolition. SSP Pareek emphasized that the action was a part of a broader strategy to dismantle the drug network in the state and reclaim public land from encroachers involved in illicit activities.
The demolition of these illegal structures marks a significant step forward in the state’s anti-drug campaign and sends a strong message to those engaged in drug trafficking. The Punjab Police’s action reflects a comprehensive approach to curb the drug menace, targeting both the financial assets and operational capabilities of drug traffickers. The move has been widely appreciated by local residents, who have been vocal about the need for stringent measures to cleanse their communities of the drug problem.
The state government’s commitment to a drug-free Punjab has been further reinforced with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s clear directives to intensify actions against drug peddlers and traffickers. The ongoing campaign, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, aims to not only dismantle the existing drug networks but also create a deterrent for those considering involvement in such activities. The collaboration between the Punjab Police and local administrative bodies highlights the unified efforts to restore law and order and safeguard the youth from the scourge of drugs.
As the anti-drug campaign continues to gain momentum, the Punjab Police has vowed to sustain the pressure on drug traffickers by conducting similar operations across the state. The authorities have appealed to the public for their support and cooperation in identifying and reporting illegal activities, assuring them of swift and decisive action against offenders. With the government’s resolve to make Punjab drug-free, the recent demolitions serve as a reminder that the fight against drugs is far from over and that stringent actions will continue until the menace is completely eradicated.
