Punjab Police Thwarts Target Killing Plot, Arrests One Tied to Pakistan-Based Terror Module
Punjab Police successfully thwarted a potential target killing in Jammu and Kashmir with the arrest of Lovepreet Singh alias Picho, a member linked to a Pakistan-based terror module. This significant development comes as a major blow to organized crime in the region.
Acting on intelligence inputs, Counter Intelligence Jalandhar teams set up a special checkpoint at Rama Mandi. During the operation, they apprehended Lovepreet and recovered a sophisticated .30-bore automatic Chinese pistol with a magazine and four live cartridges from his possession.
DGP Gaurav Yadav revealed that Lovepreet was directly instructed by Pakistan-based operatives to carry out the target killing in Jammu and Kashmir. This act of violence aimed to spread fear and disrupt social harmony in the region.
Further investigation by SSP Counter Intelligence Jalandhar, Navjot Singh Mahal, disclosed that Lovepreet received money through his bank account, routed via Dubai. He then used these funds to procure the weapon and ammunition from the Samba area in Jammu and Kashmir.
Authorities have registered a case under the Arms Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) Police Station in Amritsar. The investigation is ongoing to uncover any further details about the terror module and its potential plans.
This successful operation by the Punjab Police demonstrates their vigilance and commitment to combating cross-border terrorism. It serves as a reminder of the ongoing threats posed by such modules and the importance of proactive measures to ensure public safety.
