In a major step towards enhancing the quality of education in Punjab, the state government has decided to send another batch of 36 school principals to Singapore for a five-day training program. Punjab’s School Education Minister, Harjot Singh Bains, announced that this initiative aims to create a transformative impact on the state’s education system by equipping school leaders with world-class training.
So far, 198 school principals and education officers from Punjab have successfully completed their training at Singapore’s prestigious Principal Academy as part of the Leadership Development Programme. The seventh batch is set to depart for Singapore in March 2025, continuing the government’s mission to modernize the education sector and implement global best practices in teaching and leadership.
To further institutionalize such international training programs, the Punjab government has established the “International Education Affairs Cell (IEAC)” under the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). This dedicated body ensures that teachers, school heads, and educational administrators receive advanced training at global standards, reinforcing the government’s commitment to continuous professional development in the education sector.
Elaborating on the eligibility criteria for this prestigious training program, the minister stated that applicants must be under 53 years of age as of January 31, 2025, and must hold an Indian passport valid until at least September 2025. Additionally, candidates should have no pending charge sheets, inquiries, or criminal cases against them. Those meeting these basic requirements will undergo a merit-based selection process that considers their educational qualifications, experience, Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs), and any awards received for excellence in education.
Minister Bains emphasized that the training program in Singapore is meticulously designed to enhance the leadership and instructional skills of school principals. Participants will engage in interactive workshops, seminars, and hands-on activities that expose them to Singapore’s advanced educational methodologies and best practices. Given that Singapore’s education system is globally recognized for its high standards, this program offers invaluable insights that can be applied to Punjab’s schools.
Beyond just professional development, the visit is expected to create a ripple effect in Punjab’s education sector. Principals returning from the training will introduce innovative teaching strategies, encourage collaborative learning, and foster an environment of continuous improvement in their respective schools. By sharing their newly acquired knowledge and experiences, they will contribute to a broader systemic transformation that enhances the overall teaching-learning process.
The Punjab government remains committed to modernizing education and empowering its educators with the skills and expertise needed to elevate the learning experience for students. With each batch of trained principals bringing back global perspectives, the state moves one step closer to achieving excellence in school education.
