Punjab’s ITIs to Get Major Facelift with Rs 11 Crore Investment: Harjot Singh Bains

Chandigarh, October 3:
In a significant push to revitalize technical education in Punjab, Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains has announced the adoption of six Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the state through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with Rajya Sabha Member Dr. Vikram Jeet Singh Sahni. This initiative will transform the six ITIs into centers of excellence with an investment of Rs 11 crore.

Harjot Singh Bains, the Minister for Technical Education, emphasized that the state has been taking continuous steps to equip Punjab’s youth with vocational skills. Due to certain limitations, these ITIs were unable to offer modern and industry-relevant education. The MOU with Dr. Sahni aims to address these challenges by upgrading the institutes, which are located in Patiala, Ludhiana, Manakpur Sharif in SAS Nagar, Sunam (Sangrur), and Lalru.

As part of the MOU, these ITIs will be integrated with local industries, ensuring better placements and apprenticeships for students. The collaboration will focus on aligning technical education with industry needs, enhancing employability for the youth.

Minister Bains highlighted that specialized courses, including air hostess training, beauty wellness, and junior nursing programs, will be introduced at the Women’s ITI in Mohali to empower girls in the state. These new programs aim to open up employment opportunities for around 10,000 young people.

Additionally, the ITIs in Lalru and Manakpur Sharif will be developed into drone academies, positioning them among the top institutions in the country for drone technology training.

Bains also revealed that the ITI Excellence Center in Ludhiana is set to launch in November this year. This center will further bolster the state’s efforts in providing top-notch vocational education.

The Minister stressed that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the state government is committed to expanding vocational training opportunities. One of the key achievements has been the increase in ITI seats from 28,000 to 35,000, which will help meet the growing demand for skilled workers in Punjab’s industrial sector.

The initiative not only aims to supply a skilled workforce to local industries but also to combat unemployment and reduce the impact of the drug menace by providing youth with sustainable job opportunities.
