Punjab’s Youth Clubs Get a Boost: Rs. 1.5 Crore Grant and Annual Awards Announced on National Youth Day

Chandigarh, India (January 12, 2024): In a welcome gift to the youth of Punjab, the state government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has announced a Rs. 1.5 crore grant for 315 youth clubs across the state. This initiative, coinciding with National Youth Day, underscores the government’s commitment to empowering and supporting young people.

Youth Services Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer distributed cheques to representatives of 20 clubs at Punjab Bhawan, symbolizing the wider distribution of funds to all eligible clubs. This first phase marks the initial disbursement, with another Rs. 1.5 crore set to be allocated in a second phase.

Investing in Grassroots Efforts:

The selection of these 315 clubs was based on their active involvement and contributions at the grassroots level over the past two years. This targeted approach ensures that the grant reaches clubs with a proven track record of impactful community work.

Fostering a Culture of Excellence:

Furthering its commitment to youth development, the government has also announced the launch of annual awards for youth clubs. These awards, starting at the district level, will incentivize clubs to excel in their endeavors. The top three winners at each district level will receive cash prizes of Rs. 5 lakh, Rs. 3 lakh, and Rs. 2 lakh respectively. The selection criteria will be based on the clubs’ overall activities and impact.

A Call to Action:

Minister Hayer emphasized the crucial role youth clubs can play in addressing social and environmental challenges. He urged them to actively participate in campaigns against stubble burning, drug abuse, and social evils. Additionally, he encouraged clubs to contribute to the development and beautification of their communities through initiatives like blood donation camps, environmental conservation, plantation drives, and cleanliness campaigns.

Open Dialogue and Feedback:

The event at Punjab Bhawan provided a platform for open dialogue and feedback. Minister Hayer directly interacted with representatives of various clubs, seeking their suggestions and insights. This feedback will be incorporated into the future development of youth-related programs and initiatives.

Supporting Diverse Passions:

Recognizing the importance of sports in youth development, the government announced plans to establish 1,000 sports nurseries under the new sports policy. Minister Hayer also encouraged youth clubs to promote National Style Kabaddi, a sport gaining traction at the national and international level.

Empowering the Future:

The Rs. 1.5 crore grant and the upcoming annual awards demonstrate the Punjab government’s unwavering commitment to empowering its young citizens. These initiatives aim to create an environment where youth clubs can thrive, contribute to their communities, and play a vital role in shaping a brighter future for the state.
