Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has squarely placed the blame for the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) recent losses in the Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka assembly elections on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s alleged “stubbornness.” Speaking at the ‘Labharthi Utsav’ event, which focused on discussing the state government’s social welfare initiatives, Gehlot expressed his views on the BJP’s electoral setbacks and predicted further losses for the party in upcoming state elections.
Gehlot specifically targeted PM Modi, urging him to reconsider the Right to Health Bill, 2022 passed by the Congress-led state government. The Chief Minister cautioned the Prime Minister against prioritizing personal reputation over the welfare of the people, accusing him of making decisions based on his own whims rather than democratic principles.
Taking a dig at the BJP, Gehlot emphasized that the opposition party lacks substantial criticism against his government due to the significant developmental efforts undertaken during his tenure. He reiterated that the schemes launched by his government were not short-term election ploys but sustainable initiatives that would endure beyond electoral cycles.
During the ‘Labarthi Utsav’ event, Gehlot oversaw the direct benefit transfers to the bank accounts of 14 lakh registered beneficiary families under the ‘Indira Gandhi Gas Cylinder Subsidy’ scheme. Launched on April 1 this year, the scheme aims to provide gas cylinders to 76 lakh families at a subsidized rate of Rs 500.
Gehlot’s remarks shed light on the political landscape, signaling a potential shift in public sentiment and a demand for a greater focus on welfare-centric policies. As the BJP faces mounting challenges, the upcoming state elections will serve as a critical litmus test for the party’s popularity and ability to address the concerns of the electorate
