Rashtriya Military School, Chail, Celebrates 100 Years with Epic 242-Km Ultra Marathon from Jalandhar to Chail (Solan)”

Jalandhar, November 7, 2024 – A historic milestone was marked today as the Rashtriya Military School (RMS), Chail, one of India’s oldest military schools, began its centenary celebrations with an ambitious 242-kilometer Ultra Marathon. The marathon traces the school’s journey from its origins in Jalandhar, where it was first established in 1925, to its current location in the scenic hills of Chail, Solan district, Himachal Pradesh.

The marathon was flagged off by Lt. Gen. Ajay Chandpuria, AVSM, VSM, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Vajra Corps, at a ceremony attended by a large crowd of alumni, fondly known as “Georgians” in honor of the school’s original name, King George’s Royal Indian Military College. The event brought together former students, now distinguished members of the Armed Forces, to celebrate the legacy of an institution that has produced generations of military leaders.

In his address, Lt. Gen. Chandpuria congratulated the school on a century of dedication to the nation. “Rashtriya Military School, Chail, has been a beacon of excellence in shaping future leaders for our Armed Forces. This Ultra Marathon is a tribute to the spirit, resilience, and camaraderie that RMS, Chail has fostered over the past 100 years,” he said, commending the school’s role in nurturing young cadets who go on to serve as officers in the Indian Defense Services.

The 242-kilometer journey, passing through Balachaur, Pinjore, and Solan, will culminate at Chail’s iconic cricket ground, known as the world’s highest cricket ground at an elevation of 7,000 feet. The route itself symbolizes the determination, endurance, and discipline instilled in every RMS cadet, making this event a fitting tribute to the school’s legacy.

This year marks the centenary of RMS Chail’s establishment, which has grown into an institution known for its rigorous training and discipline. Originally set up in Jalandhar in 1925, the school was relocated to Chail and was officially renamed as Rashtriya Military School, Chail, on June 25, 2007. Today, the school prepares cadets for commissioning into the Defense Services after they complete their schooling, a legacy of commitment that has spanned generations.

The Ultra Marathon is expected to inspire the current batch of students and alumni alike, as they continue to carry forward RMS Chail’s illustrious history. The school’s legacy is not just about academic excellence, but also the values of integrity, discipline, and service to the nation. This centenary event honors that legacy, showcasing the enduring spirit of RMS Chail, which continues to prepare young cadets for a life dedicated to the service of the country.

The centenary celebrations reflect the pride, heritage, and honor associated with Rashtriya Military School, Chail, as alumni and students come together to celebrate an institution that has been instrumental in defining the future of Indian military education.
