Reverse Migration in Punjab: Youth Returning from Abroad for Government Jobs as State Witnesses Positive Change Under CM Bhagwant Mann

Chandigarh, August 13 – In a significant and encouraging development for Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann announced that the state is witnessing a wave of reverse migration, with youth increasingly returning from foreign countries to pursue government jobs in Punjab. This shift, according to CM Mann, signals a positive transformation in the state’s job market and governance.

Speaking at a ceremony where he distributed appointment letters to 417 young individuals at the Municipal Bhawan, CM Bhagwant Mann revealed that the state government has successfully provided government jobs to 44,667 youth across various departments. The Chief Minister emphasized that this recruitment process has been entirely merit-based, conducted with complete transparency, which has restored the faith of the youth in the state’s governance. As a result, many young people are now choosing to stay in Punjab and prepare for government jobs rather than seeking opportunities abroad.

Highlighting the importance of meritocracy, CM Mann stated that all the appointments have been made strictly on merit, with candidates having to pass rigorous examinations in a highly competitive environment. The Chief Minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment from the very beginning to empower the youth by providing them with government jobs. He stressed that this empowerment is crucial for making the youth active contributors to the socio-economic development of both the state and the nation.

The reverse migration trend, according to CM Mann, is a clear indication that the youth of Punjab are no longer disillusioned with the state’s prospects. Instead, they are increasingly optimistic about their future within Punjab, which is leading to a reversal in the decades-long trend of youth migration to foreign shores. The Chief Minister posed a critical question, asking why previous governments failed to provide such opportunities for the youth over the last 75 years. He accused former administrations of neglecting the youth and allowing the system to deteriorate, which in turn fueled the desire among young people to seek a better life abroad.

CM Mann did not hold back in criticizing traditional political parties, accusing them of failing to recognize or appreciate the positive changes his government has brought to Punjab. He pointed out that despite the criticism, these parties have remained silent on issues such as the provision of 44,667 government jobs, 300 units of free power, and ₹1 crore compensation to the families of martyrs. Mann made it clear that no amount of criticism from opposition leaders like Partap Singh Bajwa would deter him from his mission to serve Punjab and its people.

Taking direct aim at the Badal family and Captain Amarinder Singh, the Chief Minister accused these leaders of failing to utilize their long tenures in power for the welfare of the state. Instead, he alleged that they misused their authority to serve personal interests, which ultimately led to the collapse of the system in Punjab. CM Mann lamented the fact that the state had been governed for years by individuals more concerned with their own gains than with the prosperity of Punjab.

In contrast, CM Mann described his government as one of the common people, committed to the well-being and progress of the state. He lauded the people of Punjab for bringing about a sea change by voting out the traditional parties and electing leaders from humble backgrounds. As an example, he cited the victory of Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian, who defeated five-time Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

Concluding his remarks, CM Mann mocked those who once claimed they would rule Punjab for 25 years, pointing out that they are now struggling to gather even 25 supporters. He also criticized the Akali Dal leaders for seeking pardon from Sri Akal Takht Sahib without openly acknowledging their wrongdoings. The Chief Minister praised the wisdom and courage of the people of Punjab for rejecting these opportunistic leaders who had long deceived the state.
