RSS Leaders Criticize BJP’s Arrogance After 2024 Lok Sabha Election Results

In the wake of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, which saw the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fall short of a majority with 241 seats, senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leaders, including RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and senior leader Indresh Kumar, have issued sharp critiques of the party’s performance. Speaking at the Ramrath Ayodhya Yatra Darshan Pujan Samaroh in Kanota near Jaipur, Kumar’s remarks underscored a palpable dissatisfaction within the RSS regarding the BJP’s perceived arrogance.

Kumar refrained from directly naming the BJP but made pointed comments about a political party that, despite its devotion to Ram, succumbed to arrogance. “You can witness Ram’s justice even in 2024, during the festival of democracy. The party that worshipped Ram but gradually became arrogant was declared the largest party. However, due to their arrogance, the votes and power they should have received were withheld by God,” Kumar stated. His comments aligned with Bhagwat’s recent assertion that a ‘true sevak’ (servant) does not possess arrogance. Emphasizing the theme of ‘ahankar’ (arrogance), Kumar suggested that the BJP’s failure to secure a majority was a divine consequence of their hubris.

Kumar further remarked, “Those who opposed Ram could not gain power, even when united. They collectively stood at number two instead of number one. This demonstrates that God’s justice is not strange but the truth.” He highlighted that the BJP, despite its reverence for Ram, was limited to 241 seats, while their opponents, despite their united front, were restricted to 236 seats. “The party that did bhakti but became arrogant, that party was restricted to 241 but was made the single largest party. Those who disrespected Ram, all of them together were restricted at 236, saying that this is the punishment for your unfaith that you cannot succeed,” Kumar stated.

These remarks from senior RSS leaders reveal a growing rift between the BJP and its ideological mentor, the RSS. Tensions between the two organizations have been evident, particularly since BJP’s then-president JP Nadda suggested in a pre-election interview with The Indian Express that the BJP now operates independently of the RSS, which he termed a cultural front. This assertion reportedly did not sit well with RSS leaders, who have expressed their discontent more openly following the BJP’s electoral underperformance.

The RSS’s critique of the BJP’s arrogance could have significant repercussions for the party’s internal dynamics and future electoral strategies. The RSS, known for its disciplined cadre and grassroots influence, has been instrumental in the BJP’s past electoral successes. The growing discontent within the RSS may lead to introspection and a potential recalibration of the BJP’s approach to governance and electoral politics.

The BJP’s inability to secure a majority despite being the largest party may also prompt discussions about coalition politics and the need for broader alliances. The opposition’s close tally of 236 seats, despite their lack of faith in Ram, as per Kumar’s remarks, indicates a highly competitive political landscape that the BJP will need to navigate carefully.
