Samaira Sandhu Appointed State Icon for Chandigarh Elections, Pledges to Boost Voter Turnout

Chandigarh, February 7: Ms. Samaira Sandhu, a well-known figure in Chandigarh, has been officially appointed as the state icon for the upcoming 2024 general elections by the Election Department, U.T., Chandigarh. The announcement was made during a grand event organized by the Department of Social Welfare today at the Government College of Education.

Sandhu Vows to Encourage Voting: Accepting the responsibility with gratitude, Sandhu emphasized the importance of voting in a democratic nation. “I assure you that I will work tirelessly to encourage and educate all voters in Chandigarh about the significance of exercising their right to vote,” she stated. “My aim is to ensure active participation in the upcoming elections with a spirit of inclusivity and unbiased decision-making.”

Joint Chief Electoral Officer Congratulates and Motivates Youth: Sh. Sorabh Arora, Joint Chief Electoral Officer, U.T., Chandigarh, congratulated Sandhu on her appointment and addressed the gathered crowd, especially young voters. He highlighted the extensive preparations underway since last year and lauded recent initiatives aimed at youth awareness. “We have encouraged schools and colleges to ensure 100% enrollment certificate issuance,” he informed.

Promoting Online Voter Resources: Sh. Arora further emphasized the convenience of online platforms like the Voter Helpline App and Voter Portal, emphasizing their easy access to electoral services and voter roll verification. He concluded with a call to action: “Let’s commit to utilizing our voting rights and achieve a 75% voter turnout target in the 2024 elections.”

The event also saw the promotion of the Election Commission of India’s WhatsApp channel for receiving updates. Smt. Palika Arora, Nodal Officer, SVEEP, expressed gratitude to all attendees and encouraged everyone to follow the channel. The event concluded with the chief guests awarding the winner of a poster-making competition focused on electoral literacy.
