Sarabjeet Jhinjer Condemns BJP for Political Exploitation of Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s Parole
Questions Panthak Leaders’ Silence on the Issue
Chandigarh, October 2, 2024: Youth Akali Dal President Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer has openly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly manipulating the parole of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim to gain political mileage ahead of the Haryana assembly elections. Jhinjer referred to this move as a “dark stain” on India’s democracy, accusing the BJP of attempting to unfairly sway voters using Ram Rahim’s influence.
Addressing the Sikh community’s outrage, Jhinjer pointed out the disparity in the justice system. “While our Bandi Singhs, who have completed their sentences, continue to languish in jails, Ram Rahim—a convicted rapist—regularly receives parole. This is blatant discrimination against Sikhs, and we cannot remain silent on such injustice,” he emphasized.
During a Facebook live stream, Jhinjer called out prominent Panthak leaders, including Baljit Singh Daduwal, Manjinder Sirsa, and Harmeet Kalka, for their lack of response to Ram Rahim’s frequent paroles. He accused them of turning a blind eye to the issue while claiming to represent Sikh interests. “The BJP is clearly desperate, using Ram Rahim’s stature to gain votes in the upcoming elections, but our community leaders remain disturbingly silent,” Jhinjer remarked.
He also highlighted the contradiction in Ram Rahim’s freedom while Sikh prisoners, known as Bandi Singhs, are denied parole despite having served their full sentences. “This is a severe miscarriage of justice. How can we, as a community, stand by while a criminal who has disrespected our faith and traditions walks free?” Jhinjer questioned, referring to Ram Rahim’s involvement in crimes against the Sikh community.
Jhinjer concluded his statement by urging Sikhs to raise their voices and demand justice. “We must stand united with the victims of Ram Rahim and our Bandi Singhs. Together, we can expose this injustice and fight for the rights of our community.”
This issue is likely to have a strong impact on the political climate in Haryana, where the BJP faces mounting criticism for using controversial figures like Ram Rahim to gain electoral leverage.
