Severe Heatwave Alert Issued for Northern India: Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi to Face Intense Heat from May 18-21
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a severe heatwave in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi from May 18 to 21. The heatwave conditions will occur when local temperatures exceed 40 degrees Celsius and rise 5-6 degrees Celsius above the area’s normal temperatures. An extreme heatwave is declared when temperatures are expected to soar 7 degrees Celsius or more above the average.
Residents of Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana are warned to brace for high temperatures and strong winds on Saturday and Sunday. The IMD has indicated that these regions will continue to experience heatwave conditions at certain locations through Monday. Due to these forecasts, an orange alert has been issued, urging residents to take necessary precautions.
The orange alert is in effect from Friday to Tuesday in Rajasthan, and from Saturday to Tuesday in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi. This alert serves as a warning for people to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight, and take care of vulnerable populations, such as the elderly and children, during these extreme weather conditions. The public is advised to stay updated with IMD bulletins for further information and guidance.
