Shaping Punjab’s Electoral Arena: Independent Candidates Altering the Contest Landscape
In Punjab, the electoral scenario is becoming intriguing as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress candidates will now face independent candidates. It has been reported that Amritpal Singh, a Khalistani terrorist imprisoned in the Dehradun jail, will contest in the Lok Sabha elections. His lawyer, Rajdev Singh Khalsa, revealed that Amritpal Singh Khalsa is prepared to contest independently from Khadoor Sahib but will not run under any party symbol.
On the other hand, in the Bathinda Lok Sabha constituency, Balwinder Singh Sidhu, the father of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, may also contest as an independent candidate. Sources indicate that Sidhu’s father is getting his nomination file ready and is fully committed to contesting the Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate. There is a strong expectation that once Balwinder Singh enters the electoral fray, all dynamics will significantly change.
