Shimla-Kalka NH 2 Closed for Two Days: NHAI

A major landslide has led to the temporary closure of the Chandiagrh-Shimla Highway (NH 05) at Chakki Mod in the picturesque Parvati Valley of Himachal Pradesh. The Solan Police Department has issued an official tweet notifying the public about the highway’s closure in the wake of the hazardous natural disaster.

The landslide has resulted in debris blocking the highway, rendering it unsafe for both vehicles and commuters. As authorities work tirelessly to clear the wreckage and stabilize the affected area, travelers are urged to follow alternative traffic plans to ensure their safety and avoid disruptions.

Meanwhile, the monsoon season continues to take a toll on Himachal Pradesh, with the HP disaster management authority reporting a grim total of 190 casualties due to various reasons. Among these tragic incidents, 54 people lost their lives in landslides and flash floods, while 136 fatalities resulted from road accidents and other causes. Additionally, 34 people remain unaccounted for, and 219 individuals have been injured during the calamitous weather conditions.

The destructive forces of nature have also taken a toll on infrastructure and properties across the state. The disaster management authority revealed that 706 houses have been severely damaged, and 7,192 houses have sustained partial damage. In addition, 244 shops have been affected by the monsoon’s fury, along with 2,236 cow sheds.

The authorities continue their tireless efforts to address the situation, providing support and aid to the affected communities while undertaking relief and rehabilitation efforts.

In light of the ongoing monsoon season, residents and travelers are urged to remain vigilant and stay updated with weather forecasts and safety advisories issued by the government. It is of utmost importance to exercise caution while traveling and to avoid risky areas that are susceptible to landslides and flash floods.

The entire state of Himachal Pradesh stands in solidarity during this challenging time, as rescue teams, volunteers, and government agencies unite to minimize the impact of natural disasters and ensure the safety and well-being of those affected. The HP government appeals to citizens to cooperate with authorities and adhere to safety guidelines to prevent further loss of life and property.
