Sirmaur Relief & Revival: CM Sukhu Delivers Sops, Pledges Progress in Disaster-Stricken District

Nahan, Himachal Pradesh, January 6, 2024: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu brought relief and hope to Sirmaur district today, disbursing the first installment of a Rs. 9.88 crore rehabilitation package for families affected by the 2023 disaster. His visit also saw announcements of key infrastructure projects and reaffirmation of the government’s commitment to Sirmaur’s development.

Relief Reaches Deserving Hands:

Over 1388 families received financial assistance, with varying amounts allocated for completely damaged houses, partially damaged houses, cow sheds, and other impacts. Sukhu acknowledged the state’s financial challenges due to the previous government’s mismanagement and highlighted the budget’s focus on resource generation and long-term prosperity.

Building a Brighter Future:

The Chief Minister announced the imminent start of work on the Renuka Dam, a project crucial for water and power generation. He emphasized efforts to secure Central Government support for the Kishau Hydroelectric Project and increase royalty rates for existing hydro projects, boosting state revenue.

Empowering Hatti Community and Youth:

Sukhu addressed the issue of the Hatti community’s Scheduled Tribe status, clarifying the notification process and reiterating the government’s commitment to their rights. He launched a scathing attack on the previous BJP government, accusing them of corruption in the HP Staff Selection Commission and jeopardizing the future of youth. The creation of a new “Rajya Chayan Aayog” was announced to ensure transparency and fairness in recruitment.

A Year of Progress, More to Come:

Sukhu highlighted significant decisions taken during his first year, including restoring the old pension scheme for government employees, launching welfare initiatives for orphans, and setting up the Rajiv Gandhi Start-up Yojna to empower youth. He acknowledged the devastating July-August 2023 disaster and the state’s efforts to provide relief, despite minimal Central support.

Investing in Sirmaur’s Growth:

Specific announcements for Sirmaur included approval of roads connecting various settlements, construction of bridges over the Roon River and Pathrala ka Khala, and a road project benefiting Nahan city and surrounding areas. Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan lauded the Chief Minister’s initiatives and emphasized the increased compensation for disaster victims and the Rs. 400 crore allocated to Sirmaur by PWD and Jal Shakti departments.

Looking Ahead:
