Solan, Sirmour : Gruesome Forest Murder: How Two Suspects Tried to Evade the Law

A horrifying murder case involving the brutal killing of a youth has shaken the quiet hills of Solan and Sirmaur districts. The Solan police unraveled this macabre crime last evening with the arrest of two suspects who allegedly decapitated the victim and attempted to cover their tracks by disposing of the body parts in secluded locations. The accused, Bhutto Ram (49) and Sandeep Kumar, alias Ajay (41), residents of Sultanpur, have confessed to their involvement, with law enforcement recovering crucial evidence, including a firearm used in the crime.

The gruesome sequence of events began on January 21, when Somdutt, also known as Sonu (38), went missing after venturing into a forest near Saproon. Sonu, a resident of Pachhad in Sirmaur, had been visiting his sister since January 18 and had gone into the woods to collect firewood. When he failed to return, his family frantically searched for him but found no trace. By January 23, his brother-in-law Yashpal filed a missing person’s report with the Solan police, marking the start of a chilling investigation.

Eyewitness accounts soon came to light, indicating that two individuals—Bhutto Ram, who worked at a nearby water pump, and Sandeep—were seen heading into the forest around the same time as Sonu. Further suspicions arose when it was revealed that Sonu had carried a neighbor’s firearm into the woods. With doubts cast on the duo, the police meticulously analyzed their call records and cell tower locations, uncovering discrepancies in their movements on the day of the disappearance.

Under interrogation, the suspects initially tried to mislead investigators. However, the police persisted and learned that both accused had entered the forest with the intention of hunting. Events took a dark turn when Sandeep accidentally shot Sonu in the head, mistaking him for prey, causing instant death. Panicked and desperate to hide their crime, the duo devised a horrifying cover-up.

Placing Sonu’s body in a plastic bag, they transported it to a cave in the dense Vasni forest of Sirmaur district. To obliterate any evidence, they severed the victim’s head using a razor, burning the torso within the cave. The severed head was later set on fire in the forest of Sultanpur before being buried. The suspects even discarded Sonu’s mobile phone and concealed his firearm, thinking they had erased all traces of their actions.

Despite their efforts, the Solan police, aided by forensic experts from Junga, meticulously pieced together the evidence. The burnt torso in the Vasni forest and the buried, charred head in Sultanpur were recovered, revealing the grim extent of the crime. The weapon used, a .12 bore gun belonging to Sandeep, was seized from his residence.

Both suspects were presented in court, and their prior criminal records are under scrutiny. Meanwhile, forensic investigations continue to confirm the victim’s identity and strengthen the case against the accused.

This horrifying incident underscores the lengths to which individuals can go to evade justice but also highlights the unwavering resolve of law enforcement in uncovering the truth, no matter how grim.
