Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced significant educational reforms and infrastructure development plans while presiding over the Alumni Association program at the Center of Excellence, Government Degree College Sanjauli. Addressing the gathering, he revealed that the college would soon receive a new arts block, a girls’ hostel, and a parking facility, all set to be completed within two years. The Chief Minister also committed ₹50 lakh to the Alumni Association, emphasizing the government’s commitment to education.

Chief Minister Sukhu shared that the government is preparing to rank all 138 colleges in Himachal Pradesh to improve academic standards and facilities. He stated:

Welfare Schemes for Students
Highlighting the state’s efforts in education:
- Mukhyamantri Sukh Shiksha Yojana: Covers educational expenses for 23,000 children of widows until they turn 27.
- Dr. Y.S. Parmar Student Loan Scheme: Offers loans up to ₹20 lakh for higher education, including overseas studies, at an interest rate of just 1%.
He also hinted at significant allocations for education in the upcoming budget, aligning with the government’s commitment to promoting natural farming and fair procurement rates for agricultural produce.
Promoting Natural Farming and Livelihood
- The government is purchasing wheat at ₹40/kg and maize at ₹30/kg under its natural farming initiatives.
- Cow milk is being procured at ₹45/liter and buffalo milk at ₹55/liter, boosting rural income.

Recalling his college days at Sanjauli, Chief Minister Sukhu reminisced about student activism and merit achievements, urging students to work hard, stay away from drugs, and support the government’s anti-drug mafia efforts.
