State Taxes and Excise Seize Silver Jewelry Valued at Rs. 4 Crore and Crackdown on Illicit Liquor Trade

In a recent development, the State Taxes and Excise authorities have made significant seizures, including the confiscation of silver jewelry worth a whopping Rs. 4 crore and the interception of 250 bulk liters of illicit liquor.

Dr. Yunus, the Commissioner of State Taxes and Excise, revealed that the enforcement team in Una acted on a tip-off, leading to the seizure of silver jewelry with a value of Rs. 4,64,42,227. Importantly, this jewelry was found without any accompanying bills or documentation. As a result, the department imposed a penalty of Rs. 15,32,594 under the GST Act for the unaccounted-for items.

Furthermore, in a separate incident, the Dehra team of the department imposed a fine of Rs. one lakh under the GST Act due to the discovery of goods without proper invoices during late-night inspections.

Additionally, teams across the state have been cracking down on illegal liquor trade under the Excise Act. The Revenue District BBN team conducted successful raids in various areas, including Barotiwala, Kalu Jhanda, Kulhariwala, and Kunjhal, where they seized 115 bulk liters of liquor destined for sale in Chandigarh. Meanwhile, the excise team from district Sirmaur discovered and disposed of around 90 liters of illicit liquor packaged in bottles and cans near the village of Jamni Ghat.

Similarly, in Shimla, the enforcement team conducted raids on suspected grocery stores and dhabas, confiscating 22 bulk liters of illicit liquor.

Dr. Yunus highlighted that the department has been actively cracking down on illegal liquor activities in recent times, having already seized and destroyed 77,000 bulk liters of illicit liquor and filed approximately 230 cases under the Excise Act. He noted that 26 teams within the department are tirelessly working day and night to combat these issues.

To enhance public participation and reporting, a 24×7 control room has been set up. Dr. Yunus urged the public to report cases of illegal liquor and tax evasion promptly through the toll-free number 1800-180-8060 or the WhatsApp number 94183-31426. This collective effort will further intensify the campaign against illegal liquor trade and tax evasion.
