Today marked the final day for filing nominations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and assembly by-elections in Himachal Pradesh. In a significant political event, Congress candidate Devendra Jaggi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Sudhir Sharma submitted their nominations for the Dharamsala assembly seat by-election.
Prominent political figures accompanied both candidates during their nominations. Union Information Broadcasting and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur stood alongside Sudhir Sharma, while Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and Kangra parliamentary seat candidate Anand Sharma supported Devendra Jaggi. Both candidates demonstrated their political strength with public displays of support prior to the nomination process.

At a subsequent public meeting, Anurag Thakur praised Sudhir Sharma, recalling that former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal had previously wanted Sharma to run for the BJP. Thakur expressed confidence that Sharma’s affiliation with the BJP would ensure the smooth development of Dharamsala and predicted a long and successful political career for him in the region.
Thakur also criticized the current government led by Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, likening it to a movie that promises to be a blockbuster but fails to deliver, with audiences leaving before the interval.”and their film flopped even in 16 months ,” said thakur. He highlighted the defections from the Congress party, suggesting that the government’s instability mirrors the current IPL season where quick and decisive actions lead to victories. Thakur confidently predicted that the BJP would secure all four Lok Sabha and six Legislative Assembly seats in the upcoming elections, to remind 4s and 6s of IPL.

Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, supporting Devendra Jaggi, launched a strong attack on the rebel MLAs who had defected from Congress. He accused the six Congress MLAs of being “for sale” and claimed that they had betrayed the party for personal gain. Sukhu stressed that political service should be driven by genuine public interest, not by financial deals and betrayals, and criticized the defectors for undermining public trust.

The stage is now set for a fiercely contested election in Dharamsala, with both parties rallying their forces and making strong appeals to the electorate.
