Sudhir Sharma expressed confidence in the BJP forming the next state government post-June 4
Dharamsala (Arvind Sharma) 11/5/24
In a revealing conversation, Sudhir Sharma, a former minister and Congress national secretary now contesting the Dharamsala assembly by-election on a BJP ticket, expressed confidence in the BJP forming the next state government post-June 4. Despite the current Congress-led state government holding 34 seats, Sharma predicts a significant shift in the political landscape after the by-election.
When questioned about the mathematical feasibility of BJP forming the government, given they would only reach 31 seats even if all six defecting MLAs win, Sharma suggested that internal dissent within Congress post-elections would lead to a further decrease in their numbers. He hinted at potential cross-overs from Congress, stating, “Some who are still in the party out of compulsion will be on our boat after June 4th, leading to the end of the Sukhu government.”
Sharma also shared his motivations for leaving Congress, citing a lack of support for his developmental ideas both within the legislative assembly and the party itself. He believes that moving to the BJP will prioritize the development needs of his constituency, aligning with his commitment to serve his constituents effectively.
Further commenting on his political shift, Sharma revealed that his decision was backed by personal counsel, including advice from his mother, who supported his move to BJP if the conditions within Congress were not conducive to effective governance.
Highlighting local achievements, Sharma criticized the current Chief Minister for being uninformed about significant projects in Dharamsala such as the Kendriya VishavVidyalaya and Smart City initiatives, noting that these were accomplished before Sukhu was even an MLA. He also accused the current administration of stalling a proposed central government project for a mall in Dhawar.
Sudhir Sharma’s remarks underscore a bold forecast of political realignment in the state, indicating a turbulent period ahead for the Congress party in the region.
