Supreme Court Questions Patanjali’s Apology Size in Misleading Ads Case
The Supreme Court today scrutinized Patanjali Ayurved’s apology for running misleading advertisements. The court questioned whether the apology, published in newspapers, was as prominent as the company’s usual full-page product ads.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing Patanjali founders Ramdev and Balkrishna, informed the court that apologies had been placed in newspapers. The court then directed them to submit a copy of the published apology within two days.
While Rohatgi highlighted the cost of the apology published in 67 newspapers (₹10 lakh), Justice Hima Kohli countered, “Has the apology been published prominently? Same font and size as your earlier advertisements?” The court further emphasized that the cost wasn’t a concern.
