Rishikesh, India, January 15, 2024: Sh. R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director of THDC India Limited, visited the 1000 MW Tehri Pumped Storage Project (PSP) on January 15, 2024, for a comprehensive review of the project’s progress. The meeting included key officials from THDC, the project consortium (M/s GE & M/s HCC), and other stakeholders.

Reviewing Critical Work Fronts:

The visit involved a detailed examination of critical work fronts like the Upstream Surge Shaft, Butterfly Valve Chamber (BVC), Downstream Surge Shaft, Powerhouse, and Tailrace Tunnel (TRT) outfall area. This provided a firsthand look at the project’s progress and identified any potential challenges.

Commitment to Renewable Energy and Pumped Storage:

Sh. Vishnoi emphasized the Government of India’s focus on harnessing renewable energy and developing pumped storage projects. He expressed pride in THDC’s role in developing the country’s largest 1000 MW Tehri PSP, which is nearing completion.

Project’s Significance:

Upon commissioning, the Tehri PSP will play a crucial role in achieving India’s net-zero carbon emission target and ensuring 24/7 affordable power supply. It aligns with the government’s goal of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 and showcases THDC’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions and environmental responsibility.

It has a total installed capacity of 1587 MW, including the Tehri Dam & HPP (1000 MW), Koteshwar HEP (400 MW), wind power projects, small hydro projects, and a solar power project. Additionally, THDCIL operates coal mines in Madhya Pradesh.
