
THDC India Limited Successfully Commences Coal Transportation from Amelia Coal Mines Project

THDC India Limited, a prominent player in the power sector, celebrated a significant milestone in its growth trajectory as Sh. R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director of THDC India Limited, virtually flagged off the first coal rake from Deoragram Railway Siding at THDC Amelia Coal Mines Project in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh. This ceremony marked the successful commencement of coal transportation from the Amelia Coal Mines project to fulfill the energy needs of power projects, specifically the Khurja Super Thermal Power Project in Bulandshahar, Uttar Pradesh.
Sh. Vishnoi congratulated the team at THDC Amelia Coal Mine Project and highlighted the importance of this achievement. He mentioned that the Commercial Operations of Amelia Coal Mine began six months ahead of schedule, which is a remarkable accomplishment. Sh. Vishnoi praised the dedicated efforts of the team and attributed their success to unwavering dedication and strategic guidance. He expressed his delight and emphasized the significance of this initiative in ensuring a steady and reliable supply of coal to meet the energy requirements of the Khurja Project.
The event was attended by senior officials of THDC India Limited, including Sh. Shallinder Singh, Director (Personnel), Sh. Bhupendra Gupta, Director (Technical), Sh. L. P. Joshi, Executive Director (Tehri Complex, APP), Sh. Atul Jain, Executive Director (Technical), Sh. A. B. Goel, Executive Director (Finance), and Sh. A. K. Sharma, Head-Amelia Coal Mine Project.
Sh. Vishnoi provided additional information about the Amelia Coal Mine Project, stating that it was opened on November 17, 2022, under the leadership of Sh. A.K. Sharma, CGM (ACMP). The mine has a Peak Rated Capacity (PRC) of 5.6 MTPA and operates in MDO Mode (mine developer cum operator) with M/s. ACML (Amelia Coal Mining Ltd.) appointed as the MDO for its development and operationalization. M/s. ACML is a subsidiary of ESSEL Mining Ltd., the mining arm of M/s. Aditya Birla Group.
Sh. Vishnoi emphasized that the dispatching of the first coal rake from Amelia Coal Mines is a significant step in THDCIL’s commitment to contribute to the nation’s energy security. The company remains dedicated to playing a crucial role in the energy sector by exploring diverse avenues and implementing sustainable solutions.
During the event, Sh. Shallinder Singh, Director (Personnel), acknowledged the collaborative efforts and commitment of THDCIL’s workforce and stakeholders, while Sh. Bhupendra Gupta, Director (Technical), expressed that this achievement marked a new phase of growth for the company, ensuring a brighter and more prosperous future for India.
Furthermore, Sh. Shallinder Singh, Director (Personnel), and Sh. Bhupendra Gupta, Director (Technical), conducted a detailed review meeting with senior officials of the Amelia Coal Mine Project and other stakeholders, including NTPC and Birla Group, to discuss various aspects related to the project.
THDCIL is a premier power generator in India, with an installed capacity of 1587 MW. Their portfolio includes the Tehri Dam & HPP (1000 MW) and Koteshwar HEP (400 MW) in Uttarakhand, Wind Power Projects of 50 MW in Patan and 63 MW in Dwarka, Gujarat, Dhukwan Small Hydro Project (24 MW) in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, and a 50 MW Solar Power Project in Kasaragod, Kerala.
