Promoting women’s leadership and gender equality
Gurugram, India 05 March 2023 (Kulbir Kalsi):-
On March 5, 2023, the High Commission of Canada celebrated International Women’s Day by supporting a recreational Women’s Run – “She Leads Here, She Leads Now” – in Gurugram, in collaboration with Pro-Fit Sports and AIPL Gurugram. The event advanced gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls through a variety of activities, including a 10km, 5km and 3km run, and a 5km walk. Zumba warm-ups and quiz activities were also featured.
Mr. Cameron MacKay, High Commissioner of Canada to India, flagged off each run and delivered remarks highlighting the importance of women’s equal participation in decision-making: “Let’s celebrate the women who are leading here and now, and acknowledge the progress we’ve made, but also recognize the work that still needs to be done. Let’s commit to supporting and empowering the women in our lives so that they can lead us to a better future.”
The event brought together approximately 1,000 participants from diverse backgrounds – civil society organizations, educational institutions, corporations, community leaders, and the public at large.
As part of the “She Leads Here, She Leads Now” campaign, the Women’s Run highlighted Canada’s commitment to mobilizing its global network to continue advocating for and raising awareness of the empowerment of adolescent girls and young feminists. The initiative amplifies the voices of young women advocates in all their diversity and increases their meaningful participation with, and their access to, decision-makers.
