Tragedy Strikes Billing Valley: Two Found Dead After Slipping in Snow
A young couple, Abhinandan Gupta and Pranita Wala, embarked on a fateful journey to Billing Valley, a renowned paragliding destination, on Sunday afternoon. However, their adventure took a tragic turn when their lifeless bodies were recovered on Tuesday, buried beneath the snowdrifts, mere meters from the walking path, three kilometers below the paragliding take-off point.
Their disappearance had sparked an urgent search mission after they failed to return home on Monday. Their worried friends alerted the authorities, leading a specialized rescue team, spearheaded by Rahul of the Mountain Pararescue Team, to scour the valley. Their search was guided by the persistent barks of Abhinandan’s German Shepherd, faithfully guarding the fallen pair.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the couple might have lost their footing on the snow-covered path, sustaining injuries that proved fatal in the face of the biting cold. However, the official cause of death awaits confirmation from the post-mortem report.
Abhinandan, a resident of Pathankot, had made Beer his home for the past five years. Pranita, hailing from Pune, had only recently arrived in Beer, joining Abhinandan for the trip. Their tragic end casts a shadow over the adventure haven of Billing Valley, serving as a stark reminder of the unforgiving nature of the mountains and the importance of caution when venturing into such challenging environments.
The loss of young lives leaves behind a profound grief, not only for their families but also for the wider community. As the investigation unfolds, the post-mortem report holds the key to understanding the precise circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident.
