Tragedy Strikes Haryana: School Bus Accident Claims 6 Lives, Driver Under Influence
A horrific accident on Thursday morning near Unhani village, Haryana, has left a community in mourning. A private school bus belonging to GL Public School overturned on the Kanina-Dadri road, tragically taking the lives of six schoolchildren and injuring 22 others.
The incident, which occurred around 8:30 am, involved a bus carrying 37 students. The driver, allegedly intoxicated, lost control of the vehicle, leading to the devastating rollover.
Bystanders selflessly rushed the injured children to a nearby hospital, where four were pronounced dead on arrival. Sadly, two more succumbed to their injuries during treatment. The deceased students, Vansh (14) and Riki (13) from Dhanunda village, and Anshu (17), Yakshu (14), Yuvraj (15), and Satyam (17) from Jharli village, were all between grades 7 and 12.
Authorities have arrested the bus driver, Dharmendra, along with GL Public School’s principal, Dipti, and secretary, Hoshiyar Singh. Investigations revealed the bus lacked a valid fitness certificate, leading to additional charges under the Motor Vehicle Act. The driver’s medical examination confirmed his intoxication at the time of the accident.
Further investigation exposed concerning lapses in protocol. GL Public School, reportedly owned by local politician Rajender Singh Lodha, was operating despite being a public holiday for Eid. This has prompted calls for stricter regulations and accountability. State Transport Minister Aseem Goyal has ordered a probe into the incident, while Pardeep Kumar, Assistant Secretary for Road Transport Authorities in Narnaul, has been suspended for failing to monitor vehicles lacking proper documentation.
The tragedy has sparked national outrage. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu expressed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished for the injured children’s speedy recovery. “My condolences are with the families who have lost their children,” stated PM Modi. “The local administration is providing all possible assistance to the victims and their families.” President Murmu echoed these sentiments, expressing her hope that God would grant strength to the grieving families.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda also joined the chorus of condolences.
This heartbreaking incident underscores the critical need for enhanced school bus safety measures, stricter enforcement of driving regulations, and robust oversight of educational institutions. The bereaved families deserve justice, and the injured children require comprehensive care and support. The entire nation mourns this loss and fervently hopes for a speedy recovery for the injured.
