Tragic Incident in Faridabad: Two Girls Fall into Hot Vegetable Pot at Community Feast, One Dies

In a tragic turn of events, two young girls suffered severe injuries at a community feast in Faridabad, Haryana on August 18, 2024. The incident occurred when the girls, aged two and six, fell into a large pot filled with hot vegetables, leading to the death of one child and critical injuries to the other.

The girls were playing in the kitchen area of the bhandara, a traditional community feast held as part of a religious event—a Bhagwat Katha—at a temple in Dheeg village, near Ballabgarh. The hot vegetable pot, initially removed from the stove to cool, had been left unattended. According to reports, the two-year-old, Jiya, and her six-year-old friend, Pari, lost their balance and fell into the pot.

Despite the efforts of the cook, who sustained burns while attempting to rescue the children, the situation proved dire. Jiya was pronounced dead upon arrival at a private hospital. Pari was subsequently transferred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi for advanced treatment of her burn injuries.

The cook’s injuries were a result of his attempt to pull the children out of the pot, which had caused him to burn his hands. Eyewitnesses mentioned that Pari fell on top of Jiya, causing both girls to topple into the scalding pot. The grief-stricken community disposed of the remaining prasad, the sacred food offering, into a nearby pond as a mark of mourning for Jiya.

The police have initiated an investigation into the incident. According to Ballabgarh Sadar Police Station SHO Umesh Kumar, no formal complaints have been filed by the families of the affected girls yet, but the authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the accident.

This tragic event has cast a somber shadow over the community and has raised concerns about safety protocols at public events. The accident highlights the critical need for stringent measures to prevent such incidents and ensure the safety of children and attendees at community gatherings.
