Horrific Train Crash in Odisha Claims 288 Lives and Injures Hundreds

The devastating incident where, three trains collided near the Bahanaga Bazar station, approximately 270km (170 miles) south of Kolkata. The exact cause of the accident remains unclear, leaving the public in a state of shock and mourning.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who visited the site of the accident, expressed deep concern and announced the formation of a high-level committee to investigate the incident. Nevertheless, Sharma noted that the Coromandel Express was the first to derail and subsequently collided with the stationary goods train, causing a domino effect that impacted the Howrah Superfast Express.

Of particular concern is the fact that the Bahanaga Bazar station reportedly had four tracks, with lines 1 and 4 occupied by parked goods trains. Passengers trains, including the ill-fated Coromandel Express, were running simultaneously on tracks 2 and 3. The circumstances leading to the derailment of the Coromandel Express and its subsequent collision with the goods trains remain subject to investigation.
