“Vigilance Bureau Arrests Three Individuals, Including Two Ex-Servicemen, for Impersonation and Fraudulent Check Acceptance”

Three persons, including two ex-servicemen, have been arrested by the Vigilance Bureau for accepting a check of Rs 25 lakh from a resident of Ludhiana by posing as officers of the Vigilance Department

Four other persons nominated in this case; Raids continue to arrest the rest

Chandigarh, August 30:

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested three persons, including two ex-servicemen, who took a check of Rs 25 lakh from a resident of village Bhaini Salu in Ludhiana district, posing as officials of the vigilance department.

The arrested accused have been identified as Manjit Singh resident village Bhaini Salu, Paramjit Singh resident village Mehlon (Ludhiana) and Parminder Singh resident Akash Colony Hoshiarpur. Manjit Singh and Parminder Singh are ex-servicemen. Parminder Singh is also in charge of World Human Rights Corporation Punjab.
Giving this information, the spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that village Bhaini Salu, a resident of Palwinder Singh, filed a complaint that he had sold 18 acres of his ancestral land a few months ago. After this, he received a government notice regarding the sale of Panchayati land, after which three unknown persons came to his house on 12 August 2023 and identified themselves as officers of the Vigilance Department located in Sector-17 Chandigarh.
The complainant alleged that the said persons demanded Rs 50 lakh from him to settle the matter of selling panchayati land, as they told that an investigation is going on in the Chandigarh office and a case will be registered against him in this matter. Due to fear, the complainant agreed to pay Rs.25 lakh. The accused got him to sign two checks for Rs 15 lakh and Rs 10 lakh and guaranteed to return the checks on receipt of Rs 25 lakh in cash. One of the said accused took out 27 thousand rupees from the pocket of the complainant and left with his phone number.

After this, the complainant started receiving threatening calls on WhatsApp that if he failed to pay Rs 25 lakh in cash, a criminal case would be registered against him.

The spokesperson said that on the basis of this complaint, Section 7, 7-A of Prevention of Corruption Act and I.P.C. FIR under Section 384, 120-B dated 28. 8. 2023 in Police Station Vigilance Bureau, Ludhiana. No. 20 has been recorded. The team of Vigilance Bureau Ludhiana arrested the accused Manjit Singh and Paramjit Singh on Monday and now both are in police remand till August 31. Parminder Singh resident of Akash Colony Hoshiarpur was arrested on Tuesday. The Vigilance Bureau has also nominated four other persons in this case and raids are being conducted to nab the rest of the accused.
It may be mentioned that the accused Manjit Singh and Paramjit Singh raided the complainant’s house and Parminder Singh is one of the three accused who went to the complainant’s house on 12th August.
