Weather Alert: Himachal Pradesh Braces for Rain and Snowfall Over the Weekend on 17th and 18th February

In Himachal Pradesh, a change in weather is anticipated once again on Friday during the sunshine. The Meteorological Department has issued yellow and orange alerts as active western disturbances are expected to affect the state from Saturday. The entire state is likely to witness a spell of rain and snowfall for the next six days. While Friday saw abundant sunshine across the state, there was also a notable increase in temperatures.

According to the Shimla center of the Meteorological Department, possibilities of rain are indicated in Himachal Pradesh from February 17 to 22. The Himachal Pradesh Disaster Management has issued advisory warnings in this regard.

The Meteorological Department mentioned in its bulletin on Friday afternoon that a ‘very active western disturbance’ is approaching. During this period, on February 17, it will advance from areas connected to Chamba and Lahaul Spiti and have a significant impact from February 18 to 21. Shimla city is expected to witness substantial rainfall and snowfall on February 19 and 20.

Heavy to very heavy rain and snowfall are forecasted for Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Solan, Sirmaur, Shimla, Kinnaur, and Lahaul Spiti on February 19 and 20. Additionally, hailstorms are expected in various parts of the state, including Mandi, Kullu, Shimla, and Solan, from February 17 to 20. The Meteorological Department indicated that the temperatures during this period will be three to four degrees below normal. A cautious approach is advised, and the Himachal Pradesh Disaster Management has appealed to the public through social media to stay alert and follow advisories.
