Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed a 49-ball century for India. Indian cricket team reaches the Asian Games semi-finals with a 23-run win over Nepal

India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed a scintillating century, but a gritty Nepal fought hard before losing by 23 runs in the quarter-final of the men’s cricket event at the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Tuesday.

Jaiswal, who is considered to be one of the most promising young batsmen in India, raced to a 49-ball century, which helped India post a healthy total of 202/4 in 20 overs. However, the inexperienced Nepali team put up a spirited fight, and their innings ended on 179/9, ensuring India’s place in the semi-finals.

Jaiswal’s knock was a masterclass in batting. He hit 7 sixes and 5 fours in his innings, and his timing and shot selection were simply sublime. He was particularly severe on the Nepali bowlers in the middle overs, and his century came off just 49 balls.

The Nepali bowlers did well to contain the Indian batsmen in the death overs, and they also picked up a few wickets. However, Jaiswal’s innings had already put India in a strong position, and they were able to post a total that was ultimately too much for Nepal.

In reply, Nepal got off to a good start, and their openers, Aasif Sheikh and Kushal Bhurtel, put on a 50-run partnership. However, India struck back with two quick wickets, and Nepal were struggling at 59/2.

Dipendra Singh Airee and Rohit Paudel then put on a 70-run stand for the third wicket, and they kept Nepal in the hunt. However, India picked up wickets at regular intervals in the middle overs, and Nepal were never really able to get ahead of the required run rate.

Airee and Paudel both scored half-centuries, but they ran out of partners in the end. Nepal were eventually bowled out for 179/9, and India won the match by 23 runs.

Even though India won the match, they will be concerned about their bowling performance. The Nepali batsmen were able to score runs freely, and India will need to improve their bowling if they want to go all the way in the tournament.
