Himachal Pradesh Assembly to Conduct Orientation and Training Program for Newly Elected Legislators
The Himachal Pradesh Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania, is set to host an orientation and training program for the newly elected members of the 14th Assembly on July 23, 2024. This event, scheduled from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, will welcome 26 legislators, including three who were recently elected in by-elections. The program aims to familiarize these new members with the workings and procedures of the Assembly, ensuring they are well-prepared for their roles in governance.
Key participants include legislators from various constituencies, such as Dr. Janak Raj from Bharmour, Neeraj Nair from Chamba, D.S. Thakur from Dalhousie, and Ranveer Singh (Nikka) from Nurpur, among others. The session will be inaugurated by Speaker Pathania, who emphasized the importance of this training in enhancing the legislative skills and knowledge of the members.
During the program, attendees will gain insights into vital topics such as the legislative process, privileges of members, question hour, discussions in the House, legislative work, and the roles of various committees. Additionally, the members will be briefed on the financial benefits available to them and the e-Vidhan system, which has been operational in Himachal Pradesh since August 4, 2014, making it the first state assembly in India to adopt such a digital platform.
The e-Vidhan system allows all legislative work to be conducted online, enabling members to access proceedings and information through a mobile application. This initiative has been emulated by over 22 other state assemblies, showcasing Himachal Pradesh’s commitment to modernizing legislative processes. The training program is expected to empower the newly elected legislators, equipping them with the necessary tools to effectively serve their constituents and contribute to the state’s governance.
