Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has directed all administrative secretaries in Himachal Pradesh to set clear targets and ensure time-bound completion of pending development projects, underlining that the welfare of the state’s people remains the government’s foremost priority. Chairing a high-level review meeting with administrative secretaries, the Chief Minister said the state government has been committed to good governance and people-centric policies since its inception, and every department must implement plans and schemes effectively on the ground to make Himachal Pradesh self-reliant.
The Chief Minister instructed that the expansion of Kangra airport be expedited along with tourism-related projects, as these sectors have direct potential to boost the state’s economy. He emphasized that the government was prioritizing health, education, rural economy, tourism, renewable energy, food processing, and digital infrastructure while also encouraging private and institutional investment in these areas.
Highlighting the importance of healthcare reforms, Sukhu said the government is strengthening medical facilities across all seven medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh, equipping them with advanced machines and modern technology on the lines of AIIMS Delhi, so that quality healthcare becomes accessible near people’s homes. He further reiterated the government’s push to promote electric vehicles and build supporting infrastructure across the state to reduce dependency on fossil fuels.
The Chief Minister directed departments to accelerate approval processes under the Forest Rights Act (FRA) and Forest Conservation Act (FCA) and to adopt full-scale digitalization of their functioning to improve efficiency and transparency. Stressing the importance of rural development, Sukhu noted that nearly 90 percent of the state’s population lives in villages and the government has taken historic steps to strengthen the rural economy, including a significant hike in milk procurement prices and fixation of minimum support prices for naturally grown crops such as wheat, maize, barley, and turmeric. He urged the agriculture department to actively promote natural farming as it has the potential to become a major income source for farmers.
Recalling the devastation caused by heavy monsoon rains this year, similar to 2023, Sukhu acknowledged the huge loss of life and property but assured that the state government is extending all possible relief to affected families despite limited resources. He directed the Revenue Department to prepare a comprehensive report on the damages caused by this year’s monsoon disaster so that it can be submitted to the Central Government without delay for necessary support.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta, Additional Chief Secretaries K.K. Pant and Onkar Chand Sharma, Principal Secretary Devesh Kumar, Secretary to the Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar, and other administrative secretaries.
