Class 9 Student Fakes His Own Kidnapping in Karnal, Demands Ransom from Father; Police Crack Case Within Hours

Karnal — A startling incident has emerged from Gheed village in Haryana’s Karnal district, where a Class 9 student fabricated a false kidnapping story and even demanded ransom from his own father, triggering panic within the family and a swift police response. The case, which initially appeared to be a serious abduction, was resolved within hours after police traced the boy safely with the help of cyber tracking.

According to the information available, the minor went missing on Wednesday morning after leaving home, saying he was going to school. When he did not return by afternoon, the family became worried. The situation grew more serious after school authorities informed the parents that the student had not been attending classes for the past nearly two weeks. Despite repeated efforts, there was no information about his whereabouts till evening.

Concerned family members made public announcements about the child’s disappearance in the village, including at a local temple, and later lodged a missing complaint at the Kunjpura police station. Acting promptly, the police registered a missing person report and launched a search operation.

The case took a dramatic turn in the evening when the boy’s father received a call from an unknown number. The caller claimed that the child had been kidnapped and demanded a ransom of Rs 2 lakh, asking the family to arrange the money immediately. The call heightened the family’s fear, and they informed the police, firmly believing that the child had been abducted.

Karnal police, along with the cyber cell, immediately began tracking the call details and the location of the missing boy. Within a few hours, the police traced the child near Karnal and recovered him safely. During preliminary questioning, it was revealed that the entire kidnapping story had been planned by the student himself.

Police officials stated that the boy admitted to creating the fake kidnapping plot because he had been skipping school for several days and feared being questioned by his parents. To mislead his family, he borrowed a mobile phone from another person and used it to make the ransom call to his father, pretending that he was in the custody of kidnappers.

Kunjpura police station officials said the child was located through technical surveillance, and no harm had come to him. After counseling, he was handed over to his family. The police also interacted with the parents to explain the circumstances and advised close monitoring and communication with the child in the future.

Following the incident, the family chose not to make detailed statements but expressed relief that their son had returned home safely. They also thanked the Karnal police for their swift action and effective use of technology, which helped resolve the case quickly and prevented further distress.

The incident has drawn attention to the growing pressures faced by students and the importance of parental awareness and communication. Police officials have urged parents to remain attentive to their children’s routines and emotional well-being to avoid such situations in the future.
