Chandigarh, January 16 – In a bid to further benefit the elderly citizens of Haryana, the state government has announced the inclusion of the Maha Kumbh pilgrimage in Prayagraj under the ‘Chief Minister’s Tirth Darshan Scheme’. This initiative will allow poor senior citizens from each district of Haryana to visit the holy site at government expense.
The announcement was made by Haryana Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini during an administrative meeting with senior officials to discuss the achievements of the current government during its first 100 days in office. The Chief Minister’s office revealed that this new expansion of the scheme was in line with the government’s continued efforts to provide spiritual benefits and cultural exposure to the elderly. The government will now send eligible senior citizens to experience the sacred Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, in addition to previously covered sites like Ayodhya, Mata Vaishno Devi, and Shirdi.
Under the ‘Chief Minister’s Tirth Darshan Scheme’, senior citizens over the age of 60, who meet specific criteria, are given an opportunity to visit these prominent religious sites. Previously, the government had already facilitated trips for elderly citizens to the revered Ram Lalla temple in Ayodhya and the famous Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. Now, with the addition of Prayagraj’s Mahakumbh, the scheme aims to further enrich the spiritual experiences of Haryana’s elderly population.
Chief Minister Saini mentioned that the government has already made significant strides in various sectors like agriculture, education, and healthcare in the past 100 days. This includes initiating several key development projects and welfare measures to improve the quality of life for Haryana’s citizens.
In his address, CM Saini urged all administrative secretaries to closely monitor the implementation of policies and ensure that the “Citizen Charter” is applied rigorously across all departments. He also stressed the importance of addressing public grievances promptly and effectively. Additionally, he emphasized the need for surprise inspections by officials to ensure that there is no delay in public welfare activities. Furthermore, all departments have been directed to ensure a transparent workflow by fully adopting e-office mechanisms and linking them to the CM Dashboard for better monitoring and accountability.
In a major decision regarding the agricultural sector, the government raised the commission for ‘Aadhtiyas’ (commission agents) from Rs 46 per quintal to Rs 55 per quintal, with over Rs 309 crore already disbursed to these agents. This move is aimed at strengthening the agricultural economy in the state and providing better support to the commission agents.
In addition, the Chief Minister underscored the importance of timely execution of various schemes under the government’s five-year development plan. He urged the officials to create and implement plans that align with public welfare and the objectives of the current administration.
The meeting concluded with a detailed report on the government’s achievements presented by the Director General of the Information, Public Relations, and Language Department, Shri K.M. Pandurang, through a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation. The session also saw the participation of key officials, including Chief Secretary Dr. Vivek Joshi, the Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Shri Rajesh Khullar, and other senior administrative personnel.
This continued push for welfare schemes and the inclusion of more religious destinations in the Chief Minister’s Tirth Darshan Scheme underlines Haryana’s commitment to improving the well-being of its senior citizens while also fostering cultural and spiritual engagement across the state.
