In a significant move to empower women in rural Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu rolled out the Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Sammaan Nidhi Yojana for 2,238 eligible women in the Banjar development block of Kullu district. The ceremony, held in Dehuri, witnessed the Chief Minister directly transferring a total of Rs. 1.71 crore into the savings accounts of the beneficiaries, marking the first phase of financial assistance under the scheme. Each beneficiary received Rs. 4500 for the period of April to June 2025, as part of the state government’s commitment to improving the socio-economic conditions of women in rural areas.

Speaking at the event, CM Sukhu emphasized that the Sukh Sammaan Nidhi Yojana was designed to provide Rs. 1500 per month to eligible women, ensuring they receive financial independence and security. “Our government is determined to ensure that every section of society, particularly women, receives their rightful share of the state’s wealth,” Sukhu said. The Chief Minister further highlighted that the scheme would not be limited to rural women but would also extend to domestic working women, along with the daughters of widows, in a bid to include every deserving woman in the state.

The launch of the scheme comes after the state government took significant steps to curb corruption and misuse of public funds, which, according to Sukhu, had been prevalent in previous administrations. “BJP leaders often ask when the women will receive Rs. 1500. I want to assure them that we have closed all doors to corruption and ensured that public money is being used efficiently for the benefit of the people,” he added. The phased distribution of financial aid reflects the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

In addition to the financial assistance under the Sukh Sammaan Nidhi Yojana, the Chief Minister also distributed Rs. 5.87 lakh among 37 beneficiaries in Banjar under various welfare schemes, including the Beti Hai Anmol Yojana, Shagun Yojana, Mukhya Mantri Kanyadan Yojana, Mukhya Mantri Sukh Shiksha Yojana, and Mukhya Mantri Sukh-Aashray Yojana. These schemes focus on providing financial assistance for the education, marriage, and welfare of women and children, as well as supporting families in need of housing and other essential services.

The Chief Minister urged the people of Banjar to take full advantage of the public welfare programs initiated by the state government, ensuring that no eligible person is left behind. He called for widespread enrollment in these schemes, emphasizing that they were designed to uplift vulnerable sections of society and improve the overall quality of life in rural Himachal Pradesh.

As the government continues to expand its outreach and bring about reforms aimed at benefiting marginalized communities, the Sukh Sammaan Nidhi Yojana is seen as a crucial step toward financial inclusion and gender equality in the state.
