In a major step towards strengthening advanced healthcare services in Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday inaugurated a state-of-the-art robotic surgery facility at Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College and Hospital located in Nerchowk in Mandi.
The launch of this cutting-edge technology marks a significant milestone in the healthcare infrastructure of the hill state. With the introduction of robotic-assisted surgery at the Nerchowk medical institution, patients from Mandi and nearby districts will no longer need to travel to metropolitan cities for advanced surgical procedures.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to providing modern, safe and accessible healthcare services to every citizen. Robotic surgery technology is known for its high precision, minimal invasion, quicker recovery time and reduced risk of complications, making it a transformative advancement for both doctors and patients.
Medical experts believe that the facility will greatly benefit patients suffering from complex conditions requiring specialized surgical intervention. The robotic system allows surgeons to perform delicate procedures with enhanced accuracy, better visualization and improved control, thereby increasing the success rate of surgeries.
The establishment of this advanced surgical unit will also strengthen the role of the Nerchowk medical college as one of the key healthcare centres in Himachal Pradesh. Doctors and medical students at the institution will get an opportunity to work with modern surgical technology, further improving the quality of medical training and patient care.
Highlighting the broader vision of the state government, the Chief Minister stated that the government is working consistently to upgrade health institutions across the state with modern equipment and advanced treatment facilities.
“Our effort is to ensure that every health institution in Himachal Pradesh is equipped with world-class medical services so that people receive the best possible treatment close to their homes,” he said.
The introduction of robotic surgery in Mandi is expected to significantly improve healthcare accessibility in the region and reduce the burden on patients who previously had to travel long distances for advanced medical procedures. The move is also being seen as a major step toward modernizing the healthcare system of Himachal Pradesh and strengthening medical services in the hill districts.
