Shimla, May 15, 2025 (Arvind Sharma):
The Government of Himachal Pradesh is fully committed to enhancing healthcare facilities across the state, with a strong focus on improving infrastructure and ensuring access to quality medical services for all residents. Health Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil emphasized the government’s dedication to providing world-class healthcare services during a Special High Power Purchase Committee meeting held in Shimla today. The meeting aimed to ensure transparency in the procurement of advanced healthcare machinery and medical equipment to meet the growing healthcare needs of the state’s population.
Dr. Shandil outlined the government’s plans to establish “Adarsh Swasthya Sansthans” (Ideal Health Institutes) across the state, with the objective of setting up healthcare centers in all 68 assembly constituencies in Himachal Pradesh. These centers will be staffed with six specialist doctors, offering a wide range of services to people in every constituency. This initiative is part of the state government’s effort to strengthen the healthcare system and make medical services more accessible to people, especially in remote areas. These Adarsh Sewa Sansthans will be developed in a phased manner, with each center being equipped with modern medical equipment to ensure the delivery of high-quality treatment close to people’s homes.
Dr. Shandil also highlighted that the procurement process for modern medical equipment was well underway to improve the healthcare infrastructure of the state. He stated that once these institutions are fully equipped with the latest machinery, they will be capable of offering high-standard healthcare services directly to the people. The government’s focus on transparency during the purchasing process was emphasized, with the goal of acquiring top-of-the-line medical devices for the state’s healthcare institutions.
During the meeting, the committee approved the purchase of five Phaco Machines, a key component in cataract surgery, estimated to cost around Rs. 30 lakh. Additionally, amendments were approved to expedite the procurement process for crucial medical equipment, including a Digital Radiography Machine, High-Resolution Colour Doppler Ultrasound, and a Digital Mammography Machine for Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College in Chamba. The committee also endorsed the recommendations of the Technical Sub-Committee for the purchase of various medical machinery and equipment intended for the newly established Adarsh Swasthya Sansthans.
Secretary Health M. Sudha Devi, Chief Minister’s Advisor for Infrastructure Anil Kapil, and other senior officials were present at the meeting, which served as a pivotal step toward advancing healthcare services in the state.
This comprehensive approach reflects the government’s long-term vision to build a robust healthcare system in Himachal Pradesh that is equipped with the best facilities and staffed by expert professionals, ensuring that citizens can receive high-quality medical care in their own communities.
