High-tech traffic monitoring begins, aimed at improving road safety and law enforcement

Dharamshala (Arvind Sharma) |

The trial phase of the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) in Dharamshala has been successfully completed, and the system is now fully operational. The new high-tech system, equipped with state-of-the-art surveillance cameras, has officially begun issuing automatic challans to violators of traffic rules in the city.

Superintendent of Police, Kangra, Ashok Rattan, informed that advanced cameras have been strategically installed at five key traffic points in Dharamshala. These cameras will operate round the clock to detect violations such as no-parking, over-speeding, riding without helmets, wrong-side driving, and the use of mobile phones while driving. Upon detection of an offense, the system will automatically generate a challan. If the vehicle owner’s mobile number is registered, an SMS notification will also be sent.

The police department has urged all two-wheeler and four-wheeler drivers to adhere strictly to traffic rules, follow traffic signals, and avoid behaviors that may lead to penalties or legal complications.

Beyond traffic enforcement, the ITMS also enhances urban security by enabling continuous surveillance of public areas. This will assist law enforcement in tracking criminal activity, including theft, street altercations, suspicious behavior, or other unlawful incidents, helping to maintain public order.

The ITMS initiative in Dharamshala has been launched with the broader objective of improving traffic discipline, ensuring road safety, and enforcing laws in a fair and transparent manner through modern technology. Authorities emphasize that the system is designed not to punish but to correct, encouraging citizens to develop safer driving habits.

Citizens are urged to cooperate with the system and contribute to a safer, more disciplined traffic environment by acting as responsible road users.
