In a major operation against the drug mafia, the Nurpur Police District has seized 2.526 kilograms of charas from a vehicle near the night shelter at Muqaam 32 Mile under the jurisdiction of Police Station Jawali.
According to police sources, the accused has been identified as Bharam Singh, son of Churamani, a resident of Tikkar, Balh, District Mandi. The contraband was recovered from his vehicle (TATA Indigo, registration number HP76-1375). Following the seizure, a case (FIR No. 129/25, dated 6.10.2025) was registered under Sections 20 and 25 of the NDPS Act, and the accused was arrested on the spot.
Providing details, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Ratan stated that this action is part of the ongoing anti-narcotics campaign being carried out across the district. So far in 2025, police have registered 72 cases under the NDPS Act, leading to the recovery of 1.524 kg of heroin/chitta, 17.110 kg of hashish, 23.570 kg of poppy husk (bhukki), 344 opium plants, and cash amounting to ₹1,27,31,400.
The SP further informed that during financial investigations, movable and immovable assets worth ₹24.68 crore have been seized from those involved in the illegal drug trade. The verification of assets in several other cases is still in progress.
Since the beginning of 2025, 127 individuals (including 107 men and 20 women) have been arrested in connection with drug trafficking and related offenses. The police have reiterated their commitment to intensifying efforts to make the district drug-free.
