Punjab Police Busts Trans-Border Narco-Smuggling Module; Two Repeat Offenders Arrested with 10KG Heroin

AMRITSAR, December 22:

In a significant breakthrough, Amritsar Commissionerate Police has successfully dismantled a trans-border narcotics smuggling module, arresting two habitual offenders with a substantial amount of heroin. Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, announced the development on Sunday.

The arrested individuals, Sukhdev Singh (60) from village Talwani Bharath in Batala and Avtar Singh alias Tari (45) from village Baghiari in Amritsar, were previously arrested in 2015 along with two Pakistani nationals for drug smuggling. In the latest operation, 10 kilograms of heroin were recovered from their possession. Additionally, the police seized their Toyota Etios car used for transporting the narcotics.

According to the investigation, in 2015, both Sukhdev Singh and Avtar Singh had aided two Pakistani nationals in crossing the border to deliver a 19.5 kg consignment of heroin. Following their arrests in that case, Sukhdev Singh was released from jail last year, and Avtar Singh secured bail in September.

DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that investigations reveal the arrested individuals made contacts with Pakistan-based smugglers and managed to retrieve multiple consignments of heroin delivered via drones over the past few months.

Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar shared that the operation was based on reliable intelligence inputs. The arrest was made by the CIA staff-1 team, led by Inspector Amolakdeep Singh, under the supervision of DCP Investigations Jagjit Singh Walia, ADCP Investigations Navjot Singh, and ACP Detective Kuldeep Singh.

A case has been registered under sections 21(C), 23, and 29 of the NDPS Act at Gate Hakiman Police Station in Amritsar (FIR No. 223 dated 22-12-2024). The police are working to trace the entire network of drug suppliers, dealers, and buyers involved in this operation. Further investigations are ongoing to determine the total quantity of drugs procured by the arrested individuals.
