In atragic development amidst ongoing hostilities between India and Pakistan,Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, a resident of Ward No. 4, Shahpur, of kangra districtof Himachal has been martyred following unprovoked shelling by Pakistani forcesin the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir.Accordingto information received from the Army, the shelling occurred at approximately7:30 AM today. The news of his martyrdom was communicated to his family by Armyofficials early this morning. His mortal remains are being transported fromPoonch to Rajouri for post-mortem and necessary formalities, after which thebody will be brought to Shahpur by road for the last rites.SubedarMajor Pawan Kumar was serving in the 25 Punjab Regiment. He was due to retireon 31st August, with his last official posting in Ambala, but he hadvoluntarily opted for a posting on the border, a testament to his commitmentand courage.
Themartyr’s father, Garaj Singh, is a retired Havildar of the Indian Army. SubedarMajor Pawan Kumar is survived by his parents, wife, son, and daughter. The newsof his sacrifice has cast a pall of grief over Shahpur, with the entire townmourning the loss of a brave son.
DeputyChief Whip of the Himachal Government, Kewal Pathania, visited the bereavedfamily to offer condolences. “Pawan Kumar was a true patriot and brave heart.His dedication to duty, even just months before retirement, is an inspirationfor all,” Pathania said.Kangra.
BJP MP Dr Rajiv Bhardwaj has expressed grief over the martyrdom of Subedar Major Pawan Kumar of 25 Punjab Regiment in the firing of Pakistani Army in Jammu and Kashmir this morning. He reached his house to express condolences where he met his family members. Dr Bhardwaj said that Subedar Major Pawan Kumar has made the supreme sacrifice to maintain the unity and sovereignty of the country and the grateful nation will always remember his sacrifice.
He said that the Central Government stands with the affected family in this hour of grief and all possible help will be provided to them. He prayed for peace of the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss. On this occasion, MP Dr Rajiv Bhardwaj also made the family talk to Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur through telephone. Jairam Thakur also expressed grief over the martyrdom of Subedar Major Pawan Kumar.
