THDC India Limited (THDCIL) has been honored with the prestigious “Digital Innovation in Disaster Management (Gold Category)” award at the ETGovernment DigiTech Awards 2025, held in New Delhi. This accolade recognizes THDCIL’s outstanding contribution to leveraging advanced digital technologies for disaster management and public safety, particularly through its pioneering Digital Disaster Management System for Tehri Dam. The award solidifies THDCIL’s reputation as an industry leader in technological advancements aimed at mitigating risks and enhancing resilience in the face of natural disasters.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. Jitendra Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, Earth Sciences, and MoS PMO, who was the Chief Guest. His participation, alongside prominent government officials and industry leaders, highlighted the importance of digital transformation in governance and disaster management. Dr. Singh emphasized the role of emerging technologies such as Generative AI, Machine Learning, and Augmented/Virtual Reality in shaping India’s governance and infrastructure resilience. His remarks underscored the critical need for digital innovation in public safety and sustainable development.

THDCIL’s achievement in digital transformation has been consistent, as evidenced by its recognition in 2024 with the prestigious PSU Leadership & Excellence Award in the category of ‘Leadership in Digital Transformation.’ The latest honor further affirms THDCIL’s commitment to integrating cutting-edge technology into its operations to enhance efficiency and safety.

Chairman and Managing Director of THDCIL, Sh. R. K. Vishnoi, extended heartfelt congratulations to Team THDCIL for their relentless dedication and innovative approach. He emphasized that the Digital Disaster Management System for Tehri Dam represents a groundbreaking initiative that combines state-of-the-art forecasting and early warning mechanisms to protect lives and infrastructure. Highlighting the company’s proactive stance on disaster resilience, he reaffirmed THDCIL’s commitment to harnessing technology for sustainability, operational excellence, and public welfare.

The Digital Disaster Management System for Tehri Dam incorporates an advanced Inflow Forecasting System, established in 2016, which plays a crucial role in disaster preparedness. By providing real-time predictions of inflow and reservoir levels with lead times of six and twenty-four hours, this system significantly enhances flood risk mitigation. It integrates data from eleven Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) and four Automatic Gauge and Discharge (AG&D) stations strategically positioned in the Tehri Catchment area. The adoption of hybrid forecasting models, blending a Geomorphologic Instantaneous Unit Hydrograph (GIUH)-based deterministic model with Stochastic ARMAX models, has revolutionized water resource management and flood mitigation strategies.

Director (Personnel) of THDCIL, Sh. Shallinder Singh, lauded the team for their unwavering dedication to innovation and public safety. He stressed that the Digital Disaster Management System and its integrated components, including the Early Warning System, showcase THDCIL’s proactive approach in leveraging digital solutions to mitigate risks and safeguard communities. He acknowledged the rigorous evaluation process undertaken by esteemed experts and expressed gratitude for the national-level recognition. He also reiterated THDCIL’s commitment to enhancing digital capabilities and contributing to India’s development with excellence and sustainability at the core.

Director (Technical) of THDCIL, Sh. Bhupender Gupta, echoed similar sentiments, commending the team’s efforts in conceptualizing and implementing advanced digital solutions for disaster management. He highlighted the system’s instrumental role in ensuring the safety of downstream areas and optimizing reservoir operations, especially during the monsoon season. Reaffirming THDCIL’s commitment to digital transformation, he emphasized the organization’s focus on resilience-building, safety optimization, and sustainable water resource management.

The ETGovernment DigiTech Awards 2025 ceremony took place on March 18, 2025, at Hyatt Regency, New Delhi, recognizing organizations that have made significant strides in digital innovation and public safety. THDCIL’s award-winning Digital Disaster Management System for Tehri Dam stands as a beacon of technological excellence, reaffirming its leadership in integrating advanced forecasting, data analytics, and real-time monitoring to safeguard communities and critical infrastructure.
