Weather Update: Heavy Rain and Snowfall Alert in North India, Heatwave in South

The weather across various parts of the country has once again taken a dramatic turn, with North India bracing for heavy rain and snowfall, while South India experiences rising temperatures and heatwave conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh alerts for states like Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi-NCR, warning of strong winds, hailstorms, and fluctuating temperatures.

Weather Conditions in Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh is witnessing significant weather changes due to an active western disturbance. The higher altitudes of the state are likely to experience heavy snowfall, while the lower regions may receive rain. Popular tourist destinations such as Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, and Kullu are expected to see a drop in temperatures. The IMD has issued a warning for heavy snowfall and rainfall between February 25 and 28, advising both locals and tourists to remain cautious.

Rain Forecast for Punjab and Haryana

Weather conditions in Punjab and Haryana are also shifting due to the influence of the western disturbance. Light to moderate rainfall is expected across these states from February 25 to March 1. A significant alert has been issued for February 27 and 28, with wind speeds reaching 30 to 40 km/h and the likelihood of hailstorms. Farmers have been advised to take necessary precautions to protect their crops from potential damage.

The national capital, Delhi, is also expected to witness cloudy skies and light rainfall from February 26 to 28. During this period, the maximum temperature is likely to remain between 25 and 28 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will hover between 12 and 13 degrees Celsius. Wind speeds are expected to be 10-12 km/h in the morning, increasing to 18-20 km/h during the day, and settling at around 12 km/h at night.

Contrary to the cold and wet conditions in North India, South India is experiencing a significant rise in temperatures. The highest recorded temperature in the country has been observed at Kannur Airport in Kerala, where it reached 40.4°C. A heatwave alert has been issued for Mumbai, Karnataka, and Goa, with temperatures expected to range between 37 and 40°C. Additionally, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala are likely to experience heavy rainfall from February 27 to March 1 due to cyclonic activity.

Northeastern states are also seeing weather fluctuations. Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim are likely to witness heavy rainfall and snowfall. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been placed under an alert for heavy rainfall on February 25 and 26. Local authorities have urged residents to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions.

In Central India, temperatures are expected to rise by 2-4°C over the next 4-5 days. A low-pressure system developing near Rajasthan and Pakistan border areas could result in strong thunderstorms, dust storms, and lightning. In Uttarakhand, a weather alert has been issued for heavy rain and hailstorms between February 26 and 28.

The IMD has advised farmers to take necessary measures to protect their crops, especially in areas expected to witness hailstorms and strong winds. Citizens are also encouraged to plan their daily activities according to the weather conditions and follow necessary safety guidelines.

As the country experiences significant weather changes, citizens and farmers need to remain vigilant and adhere to the advisories issued by the IMD. While North India prepares for rain and snowfall, South India continues to battle high temperatures and heatwaves. Proper precautions and timely planning can help minimize disruptions caused by these shifting weather patterns.
