Western Disturbance Set to Bring Rain and Fresh Snowfall Across Himachal Pradesh

Shimla : A fresh western disturbance is expected to impact weather conditions across Himachal Pradesh, with the Meteorological Department forecasting widespread rain, thunderstorms and snowfall in several parts of the state over the coming hours. The department has also issued a yellow alert for lightning and gusty winds in multiple districts, advising residents and tourists to remain cautious.

According to weather officials in Shimla, mid and lower hill regions are likely to receive intermittent rainfall, while higher altitude areas may witness fresh snowfall. Districts such as Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Mandi are expected to experience thunderstorm activity along with strong winds and lightning.

The changing weather pattern has already brought relief from rising temperatures in many parts of the state. Popular tourist destinations including Shimla and Manali have recorded temperatures close to or below seasonal averages due to continuous cloud cover and recent showers.

Data released by the Meteorological Centre shows that Himachal Pradesh has received above-normal rainfall during the first half of May. Several districts, including Shimla, Mandi and Kangra, recorded significant rainfall activity over the past two weeks.

Authorities have warned that sudden weather changes in hilly regions could trigger road blockages, landslides and disruption in traffic movement, particularly in vulnerable mountain stretches. Local administrations have been asked to remain alert and keep emergency response systems ready.

Farmers and orchardists have also been advised to take precautionary measures to safeguard crops and fruit orchards from adverse weather conditions, especially in areas prone to hailstorms and strong winds.

The weather department has urged travellers heading towards hill stations and high-altitude areas to check weather advisories before planning their journeys, as rain and snowfall may affect visibility and road conditions in several regions of the state.
