Motorcyclists Snatch Gold Chain After Silencing Woman Heading to Kangra Temple

A sensational incident challenging law and order and women’s safety has come to light in Kangra, the religious city of Himachal Pradesh. A case of chain snatching was reported here on Wednesday morning, in which fearless motorcyclists targeted a woman. After committing the crime, the accused fled the scene. The woman was on her way to offer prayers at the Bajreshwari Temple. The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.

According to the information received, the incident occurred around 6:00 AM. According to the police, the woman, Shanta Guliani, was heading to the temple to pay her respects. At that moment, two youths riding a motorcycle approached her. The motorcycle bore no license plate. As she was passing along the temple road, two unidentified youths on a motorcycle reached her location. Before Shanta Guliani could comprehend what was happening, the miscreants suddenly covered her mouth to prevent her from raising an alarm. Subsequently, the cunning miscreants snatched the gold chain—weighing approximately three tolas—from her neck and, in the blink of an eye, sped away from the scene on their bike. They had covered the woman’s mouth and forcibly snatched the gold chain, weighing about three tolas, from her neck. The market value of the gold chain is estimated to be approximately ₹4.5 lakh. This incident has raised serious questions regarding law and order and the safety of women in the region.

Sanjeev Kumar, the SHO (Station House Officer) of the Kangra Police Station, stated that in this chain-snatching case, the police suspect that the accused may hail from Punjab. A police team is currently scrutinizing the footage from CCTV cameras installed at the toll plaza and within the Kangra market area. The police have given an assurance that the robbers will be apprehended shortly. This incident, occurring in broad daylight, has created an atmosphere of panic among local residents and devotees.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the Kangra Police immediately swung into action, rushed to the scene, and recorded the victim’s statement. The police have registered a case against unidentified miscreants and have initiated a rigorous investigation. Providing details regarding the incident, Sanjeev Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Kangra Police Station, stated that this is clearly a case of chain snatching. He noted that the motorcycle used by the miscreants bore no license plate, indicating that the accused executed this crime with meticulous planning. Based on preliminary investigations, the police strongly suspect that the accused involved in this robbery incident may hail from the neighboring state of Punjab.

This incident occurred in the pilgrimage town of Kangra, a place visited daily by thousands of devotees.

In a separate incident, a fire broke out late last   night at an electronics repair shop opposite the Civil Hospital in Kangra, reducing the shop and its contents to ashes. The incident triggered panic in the area after residents noticed flames and smoke billowing from the shop around 3:00 AM and alerted the Fire Department.

A fire brigade team rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after strenuous efforts. However, by then, most of the goods stored inside the shop had already been destroyed. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Timely action by the Fire Department prevented the flames from spreading to nearby shops, averting a major mishap.
