CM Sukhu Takes ‘Sarkar Gaon Ke Dwar’ to Remote Dehgran, Shares Traditional Himachali Meal with Local Family

Shimla : Taking his government’s outreach programme to the remote pockets of Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu visited Dehgran village in the Churah region of Chamba district under the ‘Sarkar Gaon Ke Dwar’ initiative, where he interacted with residents and experienced the warmth of traditional Himachali hospitality.

In a gesture that reflected the programme’s emphasis on connecting directly with people, the Chief Minister stayed overnight at the residence of Ram Krishan Tiwari. He joined the family for a traditional meal, sitting on the floor alongside its members and sharing food prepared specially for the occasion.

The household welcomed the Chief Minister with an array of local delicacies, including makki ki roti, sarson ka saag, Aehan and traditional wheat laddoos. Sukhu appreciated the home-cooked food and the hospitality extended by the family, making the visit a memorable experience for his hosts.

For Ram Krishan Tiwari and his family, the occasion was far more than a customary official visit. He said they had never imagined that the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh would come to their home, spend the night and share a meal with them. He described the experience as an unforgettable moment for the entire family.

Tiwari also pointed out that Dehgran, being a remote village, had not previously received a visit from a Chief Minister. Sukhu’s presence therefore carried special significance for local residents, who welcomed the opportunity to interact with the state’s highest elected representative in their own surroundings.

Other family members, Chetna Tiwari and Vineet Tiwari, expressed their gratitude for the Chief Minister’s visit. They said his informal interaction with the family and villagers had generated considerable enthusiasm across the area, including Bairagarh.

The visit formed part of the broader ‘Sarkar Gaon Ke Dwar’ initiative, through which the state government seeks to take administration closer to people living in distant and relatively inaccessible areas. By engaging directly with villagers, the programme aims to provide an opportunity to raise local concerns and bring government attention to issues affecting rural communities.

Sukhu’s overnight stay and interaction with the Tiwari family added a personal dimension to the outreach exercise, highlighting the importance of direct engagement, local traditions and the relationship between the government and people in Himachal’s remote mountain regions.
