Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Meets Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, Seeks ₹200 Crore Increase in NHM Allocation for Himachal Pradesh

In a major step towards improving healthcare facilities in Himachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu met Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda at his residence in New Delhi. During the meeting, the Chief Minister requested an increase of ₹200 crore in the annual allocation under the National Health Mission (NHM) for the next financial year to strengthen the state’s medical infrastructure.

Emphasizing the need for enhanced healthcare in remote areas, Sukhu urged the Union Minister to approve the establishment of three new Intensive Care Units (ICUs) in the state at the earliest. He said these ICUs would significantly improve medical support for patients suffering from critical illnesses, especially in regions with difficult terrain.

The Chief Minister also appealed to the Centre to maintain the 90:10 funding ratio under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme for Himachal Pradesh, citing the state’s challenging geographical conditions. He briefed the Union Minister on the extensive damage caused by natural disasters this year and the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts by the state government. Sukhu sought additional central assistance for rebuilding infrastructure and supporting disaster-affected families.

He further requested that the issue of enhancing Himachal Pradesh’s borrowing limit by 2 percent be taken up with the Union Finance Minister, saying it was necessary for the state’s economic stability and development.

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda appreciated the state government’s initiatives to strengthen healthcare delivery and assured the Chief Minister that his requests would be considered on priority. He also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Himachal Pradesh in its efforts to develop modern, accessible, and resilient health services.
